Laboratory SpaceThere are 11 laboratory spaces consisting of general electronics labs, specific research labs, and computer labs. Computer LabThere is one general purpose computer lab located in Jobst 144 (1030 sq. ft.). This laboratory is used to support a broad variety of course work. Lab activity ranges from simple word processing to complex modeling and simulation. This lab is equipped with 20 PCs, a LaserJet printer, and a color plotter. This is the most frequently used and accessible lab with a 7-day schedule of operation while classes are in session. Sophomore LaboratoryThis laboratory is dedicated primarily to the Sophomore Laboratory course (EE 206). It is located in Jobst 143 (642 sq. ft.) and has 13 stations, each station supporting a pair of students. This lab is equipped with a full complement of basic electronic test and measurement instrumentation and 8 computers. The computers in the Sophomore Laboratory can also be used by EE students when the lab is not in session. Junior LaboratoryThis laboratory is dedicated primarily to the Junior Laboratory courses (EE 331 and EE 332). It is located in Jobst 250 (759 sq. ft.) and has 13 stations, each station supporting a pair of students. This lab is equipped with a full complement of basic electronic test and measurement instrumentation and 12 computers. The computers in the Junior Laboratory can also be used by EE students when the lab is not in session. Senior LaboratoryThis laboratory is dedicated primarily to the Electronic Product Design Project (EE 450) and the Senior Capstone Project courses (EE 451 and EE 452). It is located in Jobst 248 (1012 sq. ft.) and has 15 stations, each station supporting a pair of students. This lab is equipped with a full complement of basic electronic test and measurement instrumentation and 14 computers. Robotics/Power Electronics LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 247 (699 sq. ft) and is used primarily for project work relating to robotics and power electronics. The lab in Jobst 247 contains 8 stations, each station supporting a pair of students and 4 computers. The lab has been used in the last two years mainly for telerobotic and autonomous vehicle projects as well as several projects dealing with alternative energy. It also has a power distribution system for safe distribution of AC or DC power to the lab stations as needed. Embedded Network Programming/Sun Workstation LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 243 (642 sq. ft.) and is used primarily to support the Network Programming for Embedded Systems course (EE 409/691). This lab contains 6 stations, each supporting a single student. These lab stations are equipped with microcontroller based network development kits and 6 computers. The computers in the Network Programming Laboratory can also be used by EE students when the lab is not in session. This lab also houses 3 Sun workstations and a LaserJet printer which is accessible to all PCs on the computer network. Project LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 254 (863 sq. ft.) and is used primarily for project work. This lab is equipped with basic electronic test and measurement instrumentation and 13 computers. It has been used in the last two years mainly for controls and embedded system projects. Embedded Systems LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 249 (506 sq. ft.) and contains 10 stations and 10 computers. The lab has been used primarily for project work related to developing code, debugging, and testing microprocessor based embedded systems. Microwave and RF LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 325 (611 sq. ft.) and is dedicated to Microwave and RF projects. This lab is equipped with basic electronic test and measurement instrumentation as well as specialized RF instrumentation and 3 computers. It also contains an anechoic chamber. Advanced Microwave Engineering LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 245 (246 sq. ft.) and is dedicated to testing monolithic microwave integrated circuits. This lab is a low dust environment equipped with highly specialized microwave test and measurement instrumentation, a computer, and a printer. Microwave Integrated Circuit Fabrication FacilityThis small space is located in Jobst 244 (57 sq. ft.) and is dedicated to fabricating microstrip circuits for microwave and RF projects. This space is equipped with circuit board imaging and etching equipment as well as a specialized ventilation system and wash basin for dealing with etching chemicals. Acoustics LaboratoryThis laboratory is located in Jobst 251 (103 sq. ft.) and Jobst 252 (90 sq. ft.) and is dedicated to acoustic projects. Jobst 251 is a "quiet room" lined with acoustic foam panels and Jobst 252 contains test and measurement instrumentation. |
